Happy New Year!
I hope you're having a blessing of a day. It's the begining of the year and I believe you're radiating pure optimism and extraordinary enthusiasm over your expectations in the coming days, weeks and months of this year.
If you are like most people, I'm sure you already have a list of goals for the year and if you're a detailed person, you have those goals broken down by months, weeks and even days. And if you are like some others, yours is more or less like new year "resolutions" rather than goals. It might be to acquire a new skill, start a business, go back to school, get married, get a job, loose weight, change a habit, etc.
Setting goals and making resolutions are important steps towards any significant attainment because you cannot hit a target you don't see. However, most people fall short when it comes to execution, in other words, taking appropriate actions in the direction of their goals and resolutions. This is the cemetary of many lofty dreams and worthy goals. Lack of execution! You cannot make a basket unless you take a shot. You cannot hit a home run unless you take a swing at it.
Most people never take a swing at their goals because they are waiting for the right time, the right conditions, or some form of validation from someone whose judgment they crave or simply because they don't have enough courage to step out of their comfort zone into the arena of uncertainty. And by the end of the year, all they can count are reasons (why they didn't achieve their goal) rather than results. Don't let this happen to you.
Start early! If you want to achieve something this year that you have never achieved before, you have to become someone you have never been before. Beyond setting goals or making resolutions, you have to become a person of consistent execution. This is what seperates the people in the ubiquitous air of ordinary from those in the rare atmosphere of legendary. Execution!
Determine within yourself to be a person of action this year. Stand up for your goals. Stand up for that dream that you believe in your heart is possible. Stand up for your success everyday. Success is not a race to the finish line, it is the accumulation of your daily endeavours. Therefore, make each day count. There aren't enough oppositions in the world that can stop the man or woman who refuses to be denied.
Another reason most people don't achieve their goal is the limitation of memory. They tried to do something in the past and it didn't work so because of that they have lost confidence in their ability to make it happen. If that is your case, you're not alone. However, I want you to think of the likes of Thomas Edison. He tried and "failed" 9,999 times in his attempt to invent a commercial incandescent light bulb before getting the right formular. When quizzed about why he persisted so long after failing so many times, he said, "I only discovered 9,999 ways it cannot be done".
As much as taking action towards your goals is important, equally important is your mode of execution, in other words, your strategy. Don't just settle with setting goals, you need to develop a winning strategy! Find out what works and follow through. Most people throw in the towel at the slightest sign of failure. Don't let that happen to you. You must understand that failure is not a wall, it is a channel. It's life calling your attention to something that you don't know yet. Find out what it is and apply it in your endeavour. You will learn your way to success. So instead of giving up, be open to learning opportunities.
